The source of Arthur Brown's music lies beyond both the spiritual and the material. His first album The Crazy World of Arthur Brown was his theatrical statement of this. It, and the single Fire!- which came from it- were both a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
He is a performance artist who also became a rock icon- wearing the same kind of inspired costumes now espoused by Lady Gaga. His influence was felt through his theatrical musical style, his theatrical presentation, his dancing, and his ability to sing in a castrati style if he chose.
He next espoused synthesisers and pioneered the use of a drum- machine as a live instrument instead of a drummer- which was received with laughter, astonishment and disbelief at the time (1972-3).
So he was one of the formative influences in theatrical rock, in prog rock, space- rock and in the electro- tech scene which led to beat boxes, Prodigy and Dubstep. En route he spawned heavy metal.
Alice Cooper has said " without Arthur Brown there would be no Alice Cooper." and as master-showman Brown has led directly to the massive shows of U2, the Pink Floyd, and the theatrics of Peter Gabriel and Bowie, and George Clinton (Funkadelic).
His voice has been described as "one of the most beautiful voices in rock music." His presentation is second to none! Recently he won Classic Rock's Showman of the Year Award.
He appears with Crazy World fully electric lineup and also the Hamburg Blues Band, electric and occassionally with Nick Pynn.
